Aunque la mayoría de la gente considere estas fiestas como simples feriados que nos dan días de descanso y diversión, no hay que olvidar que, tanto ayer como hoy, son celebraciones de hechos históricos que han influido directamente en cómo Chile es ahora. :)

Por eso, en el Día de las Glorias del Ejército, no quería dejar de enviar un cariñoso saludo a todos los miembros de las cuatro ramas de las Fuerzas Armadas de Chile, que ahora mismo se encuentran desfilando en la Parada Militar 2009 y que, desde los inicios de Chile como República, han estado ahí, listos para defender nuestra soberanía, mantener la paz y colaborar con la formación de la patria.

¡Muchas felicidades, hombres y mujeres de armas! Ojalá que todos los ciudadanos podamos contar siempre con ustedes. :)

Even though it's a bit of Avast! advertisement, I thought it would be interest to share this article with you, guys, since we all use the net a lot and it's a good idea to be up-to-date with what's going on. Yesterday, I was working on the translation of the newsletter of World Without Wars, the NGO that asked me to translate for them as volunteer (and I said yes... ^^U They are ones organizing the World March for Peace and Non-Violence) and I found a link I thought I'd share with all of you.

It's the "Free Gaza Now - 1,5 million signatures for 1,5 million humans in Gaza" petition, an online petition to try to gather signatures and demand a cease-fire in the Gaza Strip, where there's such a cruel 'war' going on. This is one of the many actions people are taking in order to ask US, Israel, Palestinians and Hamas to back off and to solve the conflict through proper means instead of just blowing each other in a pointless war. And this is the only online one I've found so far. I haven't looked too much, though, cause I haven't had time.

I don't know. I usually don't mix too much with politics or these kind of controversial subjects, but now that I've been translating stuff for this NGO, I've learned a lot about the conflicts and I've seen some of the horrors that war causes... And I felt like it was alright for me to participate a bit more actively. That's why I not only signed the petition, but also decided to "promote" it here. I don't have a huge amount of traffic but... Everything helps, I suppose. :)
